This Technical Report provides information about general properties and advantages of polypropylene, the material which is used for the manufacturing of the Eppendorf Tubes® and Plates. Important quality criteria of Eppendorf products regarding raw material and production are described.

Protein LoBind Tubes

With this recently developed EPPENDORF TUBE type, for the first time Eppendorf offers problem-free handling with the tiniest volumes / concentrations of a variety of proteins. Whereas previously, preliminary handling of tubes by saturation with BSA or siliconization was required in order to guarantee the recovery of the proteins in the plastic tube, the new Protein LoBind Tube from Eppendorf offers real advantages. Recovery rates of more than 99% are now achievable (see Image 1). Enzyme-activities, for example, are not reduced by this tube, and denaturing effects caused by interaction with the surface are almost completely excluded. All of these properties are possible without the undesired side-effects of a surface coating.
