Assessment of Airborne Extremophilic Microbial Diversity on Kerguelen Island

9 Jul 2018

This study aimed to determine if thermophilic microorganisms could be transported through airborne processes and colonize new environments. Diversity assessments of the communities present in hot water were performed and fumaroles and aerosols were collected in the vicinity of the hydrothermal fields using the Coriolis®µ air sampler.

Coriolis µ - Air Sampler

Bertin Technologies

The Coriolis Micro portable biological air sampler is a standard for testing air quality. Both indoors and outdoors, it’s the most efficient biological air sampler: It can take just 10 minutes to collect airborne particles using its cyclonic technology paired with a high suction rate. By generating samples in the fluid phase, Coriolis µ is compatible with rapid microbiological analysis methods.
