Population-scale metabolomics heralds new era in precision medicine

The field of metabolite profiling has evolved considerably over the past two decades. Among the most significant advances has been the capability to perform metabolomics studies on thousands of human specimens. Such large-scale profiling enables the sampling of sufficient subjects to stratify cohorts into subgroups based on individual variability, which is necessary to fulfill the vision of precision medicine. It also empowers the production of metabolomics data at a comparable scale to other molecular profiling technologies, thereby facilitating multi-omics integration.

Dr. Gary Patti, Professor of Chemistry, Genetics and Medicine, Washington University, will provide an overview of recent experimental and computational developments in metabolomics that are driving the field of multi-omics profiling forward.
