Trace LC-MS/MS Analysis of Hormones in Tap Water and After Purification to Laboratory Grade
1 Oct 2018Hormones are examples of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) that have been detected in environmental and drinking waters around the world in trace amounts. Even at very low concentrations, CECs could potentially exert ecotoxicological effects. In this application note, three hormones were detected by LC-MS/MS in the tap water of different laboratories. After purification by Milli-Q® water purification systems, the hormones were no longer detected in the product ultrapure water.

Water PurificationThere are a number of water purification methods available to remove contamination from laboratory water. These systems include demineralization, reverse osmosis, filtration and ultrafiltration. A combination of methods is sometimes necessary to achieve purified water suitable for use in experiments.Water AnalysisAnalytical methods used to test the purity of drinking water include determining the level of contaminants abides to the level set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).HormonesWaste Water
