SpeedCal - Multi-Channel-Pipette Calibration System
Calibrate your 12 channel pipettes in just 8 minutes
The best pipette calibration device on the market
Pipette calibration
The SpeedCal is a 12-load cell balance capable of calibrating any pipettes up to 12 channels at once. It is like having 12-5 place balances in one machine. The instrument is rather expensive at just over $100K USD, if your lab is managing a large volume of pipettes this will allow you to service your pipettes at a fraction of the time it would take you to do the same in a single pan balance. As an example, a 12-channel pipette to calibrate it to meet ISO 8655 with before and after data it would take you nearly 6 hours to calibrate. With the SpeedCal you are done in 15 minutes. So, if you had 20 of these to do every month you would only be able to service 1 a day with a conventional setup. With the SpeedCal you can service them all in 1 day. With the new ISO requirements that now require any pipette 20μL or less requiring a 6-place balance, there is an exception if you're using a device like the SpeedCal. This means that if you only had a 5-place balance in your lab to begin with, you will be faced with the reality that you will have to invest in a microbalance. At this point the SpeedCal looks even more appealing.

Speedcal Mobile is a patented multichannel pipette calibration system that enables simultaneous measurement of up to 12 volumes. It is also compatible with single-channel pipettes and can calibrate pipettes ranging from 0.5 µl upwards in accordance with ISO 8655:2022 standards.
Its benefits include fast calibration through parallel measurement, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and is available in 4, 8, or 12-channel versions with the option for later upgrades.
The compact, wheeled transport trolley enhances mobility for on-site calibrations. Speedcal Mobile includes a temperature-controlled water reservoir to maintain the test liquid within the defined temperature range, and a climate tower monitors ambient parameters like temperature, barometric pressure, and air humidity for a complete calibration solution.
Benefit from:
- Test 12 channels as described in ISO 8655:2022 Part 6 in approximately 10 minutes
- Readability of 0.01 mg to check pipettes from 0.5 µl
- Benefit from a stabilization time of < 4 seconds
Gravimetric calibration and testing of piston-operated volumetric apparatus
Reliable and reproducible liquid handling results depend on the regular testing and calibration of instruments. Globally, the most accepted International Standardization Organization (ISO) standard that details requirements for producing and in-use control of piston-operated volumetric apparatus (POVA) is the ISO 8655. In this white paper, Sartorius presents the requirements for gravimetric calibration and testing of POVA according to part 6 and part 7 of the ISO 8655, revised in 2022. Furthermore, the differences between calibration and testing according to chapters 6 and 7, which describe the testing method, testing environment, testing equipment, and reporting requirements, will be explored.
