Determination of Anabolic Steroids in Horse Urine by SPE and LC-MS/MS

Anabolic steroids are used illegally in horse racing to enhance performance. The compounds are excreted in urine either as glucuronide or sulfated conjugate. To test for steroids in horse urine samples undergo an enzymatic deconjugation to release the parent compounds before extraction. Working with horse urine matrix is challenging and generally unpleasant.

Extraction of Synthetic and Naturally Occurring Cannabinoids in Urine Using SPE and LC-MS/MS

Synthetic cannabinoids is the term given to a family of compounds which produce the same effects of marijuana. It is becoming more and more important for labs to develop new methods for testing for these compounds and staying ahead of the growing market. This application note describes a method which can test a sample for synthetic cannabinoids as well as natural cannabinoids simultaneously.

Evaluation of Alternatives to Selectrazyme® s-Glucuronidase Reagent for the Analysis of Opiates

Forensic and clinical specimens that screen positive for opiates usually contain opiate glucuronide conjugates in addition to free opiates. Hydrolysis reactions can be performed to cleave β-D-glucuronic acid using an enzyme, acid, or base though consideration must be given to efficiency and the effect it may play on the drug’s chemical structure. Recently, abalone has been presenting itself as a more economical alternative for enzyme hydrolysis. This study investigates the effectiveness of UCT’s Selectrazyme® β-Glucuronidase Reagent (abalone) in comparison to other commercially available abalone derived enzymes.
