Thermo Fisher Scientifc, the world leader in serving science, today announced the availability of the Thermo Scientific Fluorescence Biotin Quantitation Kit, which accurately measures the biotinylation level of biomolecules with only 10 microliters of sample.

The microplate-based assay is easy to perform. The Thermo Scientific DyLight Reporter, a premixed fluorescent avidin and HABA (4'-hydroxyazobenzene-2-carboxylic acid) solution, is added to the biotinylated samples. The avidin fluoresces when the weakly interacting HABA is displaced by the biotin. After a short, five-minute incubation, the amount of biotin is determined by comparing the sample's fluorescence measured at excitation/emission 494/520 nm to a biocytin standard curve.

The Fluorescence Biotin Quantitation assay requires less sample volume and is much more sensitive than the microplate colorimetric HABA assay, with a linear working range of 10-60 picomoles of biotin. The kit contains the DyLight™ Reporter Solution and Biocytin Control. The reagents are conveniently stored at 4°C for up to one year.
