Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, announced today it is expanding its partnership with Advion BioServices, Inc., the bioanalytical services division of Advion BioSciences, Inc. The move by Advion to enhance its bioanalytical capabilities and satisfy the company’s expansion goals is facilitated by a strategic increase in their investment of Thermo Scientific Watson LIMS (laboratory information management system). Developed in collaboration with many of the top pharmaceutical companies specifically for bioanalytical laboratories and contract research organizations (CROs), Thermo Scientific Watson LIMS is specifically designed to support drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) studies in drug discovery and development, and is installed in 18 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical organizations and leading CROs around the world. Because Thermo Fisher Scientific is committed to understanding the needs of the pharmaceutical market in all phases of drug development, and to developing laboratory solutions to meet those distinct needs, Watson LIMS has become the de facto LIMS solution for small to mid-sized Contract Research Organizations, as well as very large CROs performing bioanalytical services.

“The additional investment in Thermo Scientific Watson LIMS is essential to Advion’s ability to meet the ever increasing needs of our sponsor organizations and will help Advion keep pace with market requirements,” says David Hardwick, Advion’s Director of Laboratory Operations. “Our long-term partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific has made a meaningful impact on our operations by providing software solutions to address our data management needs. Our use of the Watson LIMS system has been instrumental in our success as a provider of world-class bioanalytical services.”

Greg Huelbig, Strategic Sales Executive for Thermo Scientific Informatics says, “Advion has been a partner with Thermo Fisher Scientific for many years, and was part of the original development process for bringing Watson LIMS to market. Thermo Fisher Scientific has become the industry leader in providing laboratory solutions to its customers because of this type of collaboration. We build our products to meet the needs of our customers and because we work with our customers and understand the nature of the business they’re in, we are able to develop products that suit their very specific needs in each distinct area of the laboratory. Watson LIMS is a perfect example of how successful this relationship has been.”

The entire portfolio of Thermo Scientific LIMS for pharmaceutical companies has been developed to meet the distinct needs of each phase of the drug development process, from research through to manufacturing. For bioanalytical laboratories and CROs, Watson LIMS is designed to support drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) studies in drug discovery and development; Galileo LIMS enables high-throughput compound screening for in vitro ADME studies; Nautilus LIMS is designed for flexible environments preferred by research organizations; Darwin LIMS was developed specifically for pharmaceutical manufacturing R&D and QA/AC. Since the LIMS is one of the most important tools in the pharmaceutical laboratory, Thermo Fisher Scientific believes that by providing purpose-built solutions, customers are enabled to be more productive in their business, and ultimately realize a lower total cost of ownership for their LIMS investment.

LIMSLIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is an informatics software system used to improve the quality assurance and quality control (QA / QC) of data management. LIMS can be a standard for common lab workflows, such as commercial off the shelf systems (COTS), or customized for more specialized lab use. Systems are available for mainframe computers or PC.Medicinal ChemistryMedicinal chemistry is a broad discipline encompassing the design, identification, synthesis and development of chemicals in drug discovery. It includes a number of techniques covering structural biology, synthetic chemistry and molecular biology. Technologies used in medicinal chemistry include ADME, lab-on-a-chip, high content screening and assay assembly.Process ChemistryProcess chemistry is an important stage of drug development for scaling-up drug production or chemical synthesis reactions. It is useful for optimizing economical and efficient drug production. Process chemistry uses reactors and pump systems as well as reagents, standards and buffers.Biopharmaceutical AdvancesBiopharmaceutical advances follow the development of pharmaceuticals derived from biotechnology, also known as biotechnology medicines. Biopharmaceuticals may be produced from cell lines, plants, or microbial cells. Important considerations of biopharmaceutical use include application, cost, production process and purification.
