Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. introduces Thermo Scientific HyClone SFM4Insect medium, an Animal-Derived Component Free (ADCF) and protein-free medium for insect cell cultures. The HyClone® SFM4InsectTM cell culture medium is developed through Metabolic Pathway DesignTM to support the growth of many key insect cell lines and production of a variety of recombinant proteins.

Insect cells need only minimal adaptation to SFM4Insect to provide growth performance superior to formulations that contain animal origin components. The medium has been successfully tested in a variety of culture systems including traditional and disposable bioreactors for production of recombinant proteins using the Baculovirus Expression Vector System.

In addition to component traceability, regulatory-friendly ADCF and protein-free characteristics, HyClone medium is manufactured according to cGMP and ISO-compliant standards to provide a quality product to cell culture and bioprocessing customers. SFM4Insect medium is available in liquid form in 500 mL and 1 L bottles, and in 1 L to 200 L bioprocess containers or in custom packaging. The medium is also available as a powder for applications ranging from research through production.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.
