Nonlinear Dynamics Ltd, the world leading developer of analysis solutions for proteomics, biomarker discovery and clinical diagnostics, has signed an agreement with UVP, LLC, a global leader in life science imaging for academic, biopharmaceutical and biotechnology applications. The agreement covers the promotion and supply of Nonlinear’s SameSpots analysis software through UVP’s direct sales force and worldwide distributor network.

The agreement follows the recent release of the BioSpectrum 800 imaging system from UVP which is an affordable alternative to the more expensive and slower 2D laser scanner systems. It has been developed specifically to support the image capture requirements of 2D gel electrophoresis and Difference Gel Electrophoresis (DIGE) applications with a high resolution 8.3 megapixel image capture capability.

The SameSpots software provides significant improvements in speed, objectivity and statistical power. This is making a radical impact on proteomics research by giving customers both the facility to know how many biological replicates they need to run and the speed to make it feasible to run that many replicates – thus allowing scientists to draw valid conclusions about the biology being studied. It has been adopted by the leading research groups in proteomics and received widespread recognition. It will be offered alongside the BioSpectrum 800 system and to UVP’s existing worldwide customer base.

Leighton Smith, CEO of UVP, LLC said, “This new agreement with Nonlinear marks a significant step forward for UVP in the 2D gel proteomics market and further strengthens UVP’s commitment to offer life scientists the best possible solution for their imaging and analysis. The combination of the BioSpectrum 800 with SameSpots offers a fast yet affordable option for researchers.”

Will Dracup, CEO of Nonlinear Dynamics said, “Together, the BioSpectrum 800 and SameSpots solutions offer huge speed improvements, giving scientists the ability to analyse enough replicates for true statistical power in only a matter of hours. Running enough replicates is key to generating robust and reliable data from your proteomics research – so it is great for Nonlinear to be working with UVP to make this technology accessible to more scientists.”

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Data AnalysisData analysis hardware and software is available to make data processing straight-forward yet powerful. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Gel Doc / Image AnalysisGel documentation (gel doc) or gel imaging systems are used for the analysis of proteins, antibodies and nucleic acid immobilized in polyacrylamide or agarose gels, membranes or microarrays. Explore a range of a gel imaging systems, densitometers, scanners, transilluminators or UV lamp + CCD cameras for your image analysis solutions. Colorimetric, fluorescent and/or radioisotopic samples can be visualized and documented for further analysis. The use of biomarkers in research and diagnosis can indicate a normal or disease state or drug response of cells / tissues. Biomarkers include genetic markers, cell surface markers such as antigens, antibodies or receptors and secreted molecules such as cytokines. An assay system is required for identification of biomarkers. :
