Product news

MACHEREY-NAGEL, the manufacturer of NUCLEOSIL®, and one of the leading companies for chromatography products, introduces the new NUCLEODUR® application booklet “Professional Solutions for HPLC”.

The publication introduces all available NUCLEODUR® phases with various applications including HPLC columns, filled with the new high performance 1.8µm particles and a unique new C18 phase with outstanding shape selectivity (NUCLEODUR® C18 ISIS) for various separation problems.

For the first time MACHEREY-NAGEL introduces a 100% Ion Trap compatible ultra low bleed GC-capillary column. The features are extreme low column bleeding, very good deactivation for basic compounds and high temperature stability. The basic polymer comprises the newest arylene-siloxane technique, leading to highest possible temperature stabilities parallel to lowest bleeding values.

MACHEREY-NAGEL introduces in addition to the standard ADAMANT programme, a new outstanding HPTLC-plate with unmodified silica, under the trade-name of Nano-ADAMANT. Nano-ADAMANT plates feature a newly developed organic binder system, which results in an outstanding hard silica layer. The plate can be easily marked for clear identification. In addition to the advantages of the optimised binder system the UV indicator of the Nano-ADAMANT features an increased brilliance which, in combination with the low-noise background, results in an increased detection sensitivity.

Expanding the existing CHROMABOND® FLASH Safety System columns and holder program, MACHEREY-NAGEL introduces a new and bigger system. The CHROMABOND® FLASH Safety System 750 cartridges content silica weights of 330 and 450 g for preparative use. The new cartridge holder offers a maximum in safety, optical control and easy column exchange. An additional advantage of the metal-covered cartridges is an increase of lifetime. The CHROMABOND® FLASH Safety System 750 can be used as “stand alone”-system with any pump/detector combination.

NUCLEODUR® C18 ISIS

MACHEREY-NAGEL GmbH & Co. KG

A unique C18 phase with high steric selectivity • C18 phase with special polymeric surface modification • particle sizes 1.8 µm, 3 µm and 5 µm • exceptional steric selectivity • outstanding surface deactivation • pH stability 1 – 10 • broad range of applications: steroids, (o,p,m-) substituted aromatics, fat-soluble vitamins, positional isomers Surface modification By use of specific C18 silanes and appropriate polymeric bonding technologies a dense shield of alkyl chains protects the subjacent silica matrix. Elemental analysis of NUCLEODUR® C18 Isis shows a carbon load of 20%. The target crosslinking of the C18 chains on the surface enables the separation of compounds with similar molecular structure but different stereochemical properties. The separation of o-terphenyl and triphenylene is a concrete example to evaluate the selectivity potential of a reversed phase column in terms of the different shape of two molecules. The phenyl rings of o-terphenyl are twisted out of plane while triphenylene has a planar geometry. Surface deactivation The chromatography of basic analytes requires a high density of surface-bonded C18 silanes combined with a thorough endcapping procedure to keep silanol activity at a minimum. This ensures tailing-free elution of even strongly basic amino-containing compounds. Stability The applied special surface bonding technology also provides improved stability features for the NUCLEODUR® C18 Isis phase. The proof for this was given in a long-term test in which the decrease of plate counts for caffeine at pH 10 and 50 °C has been observed over a period of 200 hours and 2000 sample injections respectively.

Gas ChromatographyGas chromatography (GC) is an analytical technique used to separate and quantitate mixtures of small and volatile compounds. Gas chromatographs or GC systems include components such as GC columns, detectors, pumps and autosamplers. Choose from packed or capillary GC columns, flame ionization (FID), photoionization (PID) electron capture detectors and selective or non-selective detectors. Find the best gas chromatographs in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. Products to assist sample preparation include filtration equipment, evaporators, membranes and sieves.Thin Layer ChromatographyThin-layer chromatography (TLC), also called planar chromatography, is an inexpensive and simple liquid chromatographic technique used to separate and identify small amounts of compound in a mixture, monitor progress of a reaction or determine purity of substance. TLC plates come in multiple sizes with common adsorbent layers being silica, aluminum oxide or cellulose and high-performance (HP-TLC) plates are also available for increased sensitivity. Other equipment needed includes TLC developing chambers, applicators, TLC sprayers and visualizing devices, such as a viewing cabinet and UV lamp.
