HIPK1 (Homeodomain Interacting Protein Kinase 1) is a serine/threonine kinase present in the nucleus that interacts with homeodomain transcription factors and acts as a co-repressor of transcription. It phosphorylates DAXX in response to stress, and mediates its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. HIPK1 may be involved in malignant squamous cell tumor formation.
