Optimizing Colorectal Cancer Detection with New Strategies and Best Practices for Labs

June 11, 2025 - 15:00 BST / 16:00 CEST / 10:00 EDT / 07:00 PDT

Join our expert, Sally Benton, Consultant Biochemist and Clinical Lead for Clinical and Specialist Biochemistry Services at Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services and Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, for an educational session on the critical role laboratories play in the early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) and how advancements in testing methods and programs can significantly improve patient outcomes.

In this session, we will emphasize the importance of early detection in enhancing patient prognosis while addressing the unique challenges laboratories face in supporting global colorectal cancer screening initiatives.

You will gain a clinical overview of colorectal cancer and learn how laboratories are essential in meeting the growing demand for early detection worldwide. Expert insights will be shared on strategies and best practices for implementing or optimizing colorectal cancer testing programs in your laboratory, as well as how to effectively triage patients to the appropriate clinical pathways for better care and outcomes.

The webinar will also cover various laboratory testing methodologies, with a particular focus on the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) — a widely recommended screening method used in many global programs. We will explore key considerations across the preanalytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases, including best practices for sample collection, processing, and expert guidance on establishing thresholds and reporting results. Additionally, we will discuss the importance of maintaining quality assurance through external quality assessment programs and stringent quality control measures to ensure consistent and reliable results.

The session will also highlight the latest trends and developments in colorectal cancer detection and fecal immunochemical testing. You will gain valuable expert insights and practical strategies to enhance your colorectal cancer testing practices and ultimately improve patient care.

Key learning objectives

  • Develop actionable strategies and best practices for implementing or optimizing colorectal cancer testing programs.
  • Implement protocols, patient education, and programs to minimize variability in the preanalytical phase, ensuring consistency in patient collection, processing, and results.
  • Create strategies and protocols to address analytical challenges and establish quality monitoring systems to ensure reliable results.

Who should attend?

Healthcare professionals, clinical staff, lab technicians, pathologists, lab directors, and outpatient services facilities.
