Effective contamination prevention – best practices for cell culture

Contamination is a recurring problem in basic and applied research, as well as in the production of advanced therapeutics under good manufacturing practice (GMP) guidelines.

Kris Wronski, EMEA Cell Culture Applications Scientist, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Steve Beckett, Senior Technical Sales Specialist, Thermo Fisher Scientific, will discuss the different types of cell culture contamination and their effects on cells. They will also explore how to recognize and implement validated solutions and tactics for effective cleaning and disinfection in research vs. GMP settings. Plus, they will explain how to mitigate contamination risks through implementing effective prevention strategies.

Key learning objectives

  • Learn about the types, sources, and consequences of contamination in research vs. GMP production settings
  • Understand the critical factors that need to be considered for lab equipment and consumables
  • Find out how to recognize third party validated solutions, as per 10th Ed. of EU Pharmacopeia

Who should attend?

  • Academic research: lab managers, research fellows, lead scientists, post docs, research technicians and assistants, principal investigators, and PhD and MSc students.
  • Pharma / Biotech: those involved in cell and gene therapy development and production, lead scientists, GMP facility managers, validation scientists, GMP production scientists, cleanroom operators, and cleanroom managers.
