Thousands of scientists attended the 67th annual American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) conference last week in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. SelectScience editors attended the show to report on the latest and greatest in mass spectrometry and the allied topics — here we cover the most exciting innovations in this field, as presented by seven exhibitors.
Agilent introduced its intelligent LC/MS system, desgined to be an intuitive quadrupole, which incorporates 'designed-in' smart features, software, and hardware specifically for chemists and chromatographers. Monty Benefiel, Vice President and general manager of Agilent's Mass Spectrometry Division, declares that "the InfinityLab LC/MSD iQ System is the simplest and quickest path to robust, reliable, and routine mass-based detection." Find out more about what this new system can do for your lab here.
Waters unveiled two new high-resolution mass spectrometry systems, the novel SELECT SERIES cyclic IMS and new SYNAPT XS, designed to address the most challenging analytical needs. SELECT SERIES Cyclic IMS integrates cyclic ion mobility (cIM) technology into a high-performance research-grade time-of-flight mass spectrometer, aiming to provide limitless experimental potential. Mike Wilson, Director, Product Marketing Mass Spectrometry Systems, also reiterated the value of Water's BioAccord LC-MS System for biopharmaceuticals: "The BioAccord System continues to excite our biopharmaceutical customers as they contend with the increasing complexity of their molecules and business models." The Thermo Fisher Scientific Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 mass spectrometer was unveiled as a system designed to combine proven technology with advanced capabilities and intelligence-driven data acquisition techniques. Enabling researchers to deploy MS for more rigorous, high-throughput protein identification, quantitation and structural characterization. Thermo Fisher Scientific also announced its HR Multi-Attribute Method (MAM), designed to meet the demand for a single, high-resolution mass spectrometry-based workflow to directly assess the quality of increasingly complex biotherapeutics. Learn more about the latest additions to Thermo Fisher Scientific's portfolio here.
Bruker's new timsTOF fleX™ with ESI and MALDI for SpatialOMx™ promises to be an invaluable research tool for spatially-resolved 4D proteomics and phenomics, as well as for advancing single-cell biology, pharmaco-proteomics, and translational 4D cross-omics workflows on large cell numbers or patient cohorts. Find out more about this release here.
SCIEX introduced the new TripleTOF® 6600+ LC-MS/MS system, with scanning SWATH® acquisition and OneOmics™ in SCIEX Cloud, is built for large-scale precise quantification in biomarker discovery and clinical research. The instrument incorporates simplified low-flow source technology to deliver accessible, sensitive and robust quantification; while multiple software-enabled improvements aimed to increase robustness and maximize system uptime. Acoustic Injection MS was also unveiled for the first time after several years of collaboration within the pharmaceutical industry. The new technique promises native mass spectrometry analysis with no sample prep for high throughput screening applications, with a commercially available product to follow. Find out more about the new tripleTOF here.
Shimadzu introduced its recently developed Amyloid Mass Spectrometry (MS) Service. This new test service for early screening of amyloid-positive subjects uses a combination of immunoprecipitation and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy (IP-MS) for early and accurate detection of amyloid deposition in the brain . Unlike conventional methods, Shimadzu’s new test is minimally invasive, cost-effective and suitable for large-scale deployment. Shimadzu also unveiled the MALDImini-1 Digital Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer, the first commercially available compact MALDI digital ion trap mass spectrometer. Read more here.
PerkinElmer displayed a customer-first focus at ASMS. Aiming to provide a ‘painless’ service and trusted expertise to customers in the food safety and associated regulatory markets, from tools and templates such as Standard Operating Procedures, to software solutions designed to manage the complete flow and integrity of information.
