Great for analyzing water samples, but less than ideal for analyzing soils.

"The Lotix TOC analyzer is very easy to use and the performance of the instrument so far has been great. The LSS module however is a different story. Bad engineering means you have to re-plumb the instrument to go back and forth between soil and water samples. I asked Teledyne if they were planning to offer a manifold to make it easier to switch and was informed that they had no intention of offering a solution, so keep your wrenches handy. The sales literature for the LSS is misleading. We found that analyzing more than 100 mg of sample could produce results outside the calibration range of the instrument, so don't count on being able to burn 1 g of sample as you will most likely exceed the capacity of the detector. Teledyne was not too helpful in helping us resolve the issue either. The Lotix itself is very simple and easy to get the hang of, but the back of the instrument is hard to get to and work on (which you will have to do) when you need to given the size of the instrument. Teledyne's software for the Lotix is app-based, which makes it simple to learn and use but the trade-off is that it's very closed off to making any changes allowing you to customize it."
