Sustainability at Tecan: 12 Key Points

Sustainability Governance: Tecan has a Sustainability Committee chaired by its CEO, and a sustainability program detailed in the Sustainability Report which is drafted to GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards and is part of Tecan’s Annual Report.

Environment: Tecan reports the company’s total global carbon footprint along with other environmental impact data: see the environmental data table and chart in the sustainability report on tecan.com.

Environment: Tecan has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative and the SBTi’s related Business Ambition for 1.5°C. Tecan SBTi-validated greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets are as follows:

  • Overall Net Zero Target: Tecan Group Ltd. commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.

  • Near-Term Targets: Tecan Group Ltd. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year. Tecan also commits to increase active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 34% in 2022 to 100% by 2025, and to continue active annual sourcing of 100% renewable electricity through 2030. Tecan finally commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.

  • Long-Term Targets: Tecan Group Ltd. commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2022 base year.

Environment: Tecan has completed Product Carbon Footprints of Fluent® and Spark® products, and based on these, it funds climate action via high-quality carbon credits that contribute to developing renewable energy capacity in India.

Social Impact: Tecan has been certified a Great Place to Work in Switzerland and recognized as one of Switzerland’s best large workplaces.

Social Impact: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is supported at Tecan in a number of ways, including flexible working arrangements, mentoring, and dedicated Employee Resource Groups.

Social Impact: An equal pay audit conducted in 2021 and verified by an independent third party auditor showed no gender-based inequality in pay at Tecan in Switzerland.

Social Impact: Tecan supports communities through a variety of local initiatives and runs a global program called ‘Tecan Gives Back’ which has supported eight different health-related charities in the past two years, while also promoting employee health and wellbeing and community volunteering.

Governance: Tecan has strong governance practices in place to ensure business is carried out to the highest ethical standards. Related policies including a Code of Conduct in nine languages can be found on tecan.com. Code of Conduct training is carried out annually. Paramit entities have an aligned, separate Code of Conduct. All other policies apply to all entities.

Governance: Executive compensation is linked to sustainability achievements: The variable pay of Tecan’s senior management is linked to Tecan’s sustainability targets. These targets are part of Tecan’s Group Strategy and are reported on quarterly.

Responsible Sourcing: Tecan has a responsible sourcing program and is working to ensure ethical business practices throughout the value chain. The related Supplier Code of Conduct is found online.
