The AstraGene micro-volume spectrophotometer is designed to offer protection of samples during concentration and purity measurements, in circumstances where volumes of DNA are at a minimum. Using through-the-tip analysis techniques, the sample remains inside the sterile pipette tip at all times. The instrument requires minimal maintenance and has a calibration that should not change during the life of the instrument. This offers maximum protection for precious samples.

The procedure of dispensing the sample onto a pedestal or into a cuvette is eliminated, the user simply picks up a 2µl sample, inserts the pipette tip into the holder and makes the measurement; the sample can then be safely returned for further amplification or processing with no fear of contamination.

AstraGene is based on a sensitive CCD array spectrophotometer, with no moving parts and a pulsed xenon lamp that should never need replacing. This robust instrument requires minimal maintenance and has a calibration that should not change during the life of the instrument.

DNA or RNA concentration and purity ratios are returned within 2 seconds of clicking the measure button, while Direct and Indirect Protein measurements can also be made, along with Micro-Array Labeling Efficiency studies. AstraGene can be used as a dedicated micro-volume spectrophotometer or be fitted with cuvette or dip-probe accessories to handle or support all spectrophotometer requirements.
