Andor Technology plc (Andor), a world leader in scientific imaging and spectroscopy solutions, today announced an exceptional performance advancement of their Neo and Zyla sCMOS cameras in the freely available open source microscopy acquisition software, µManager.

Both Neo and Zyla sCMOS cameras are fully functional in µManager, now achieving sustained full resolution frame rates of up to 100 fps, benefiting from recent µManager architectural improvements. Andor’s sCMOS cameras represent a perfect way to radically upgrade microscope system performance, bettering existing interline CCD cameras by a factor of 5x sensitivity, 10x dynamic range, 16x speed and 4x larger field of view. Whether acquiring the full field of view of 5.5 MP or a sub-region of 128 x 128 pixels, Andor’s freely downloadable sCMOS camera drivers work in unison with µManager, offering affordable and immediate access to the performance potential of these cameras.

Orla Hanrahan, Life Science Imaging Application Specialist at Andor Technology, commented, “µManager is very popular among a large number of microscopists and it was Andor’s goal to allow researchers who utilize this software to also benefit from the advanced set of performance features available in our sCMOS range. These features will allow the µManager user to acquire excellent resolution images with a large field of view and also to image dynamic processes rapidly and with high sensitivity. Furthermore, we are seeing microscopists switch to µManager as a means to begin working with Andor’s sCMOS cameras in a competitive and powerful acquisition and analysis software environment.”

To further benefit the user, Andor has prepared a software guide for the Neo and Zyla in µManager, which describes how to install and optimize the cameras in this package. Click here to download the guide.

Neo 5.5 - sCMOS Camera

Oxford Instruments Andor

The Neo sCMOS Camera platform has been conceptualised and specifically engineered to harness the full performance potential of this new and exciting sensor technology. Unlike any CCD or CMOS camera to come before, Neo is unique in its ability to simultaneously offer ultra-low noise, extremely fast frame rates, wide dynamic range, high resolution and a large field of view. Neo breaks new boundaries in offering an exceptionally low read noise of 1 e- rms without the need for signal amplification technology. 100 frames/s can be reached with full frame readout, faster with region of interest selection. In Neo, these speeds are uniquely coupled to a dynamic range capability of 30,000:1 with 16-bit digitization.
