Advanced Solutions for Simultaneous Multi-Wavelength Imaging Launched

11 Jul 2012

Andor Technology plc (Andor) has announced the launch of its multi-wavelength imaging portfolio. The portfolio comprises of the TuCam, a state-of-the-art two camera adapter for simultaneous imaging with maximized field of view, as well as the Optosplit II, a cost-effective dual emission splitter that divides an image into two separate spatially equivalent components that can be displayed side by side on a single camera sensor.

Perfectly suited to fast, concurrent detection of two different fluorophores in experiments such as co-localization FRET or ratiometric ion signalling, TuCam and Optosplit II are compatible with Andor’s complete range of market leading low light imaging cameras, including iXon and Luca EMCCDs, Clara interline CCD and the Neo and Zyla sCMOS. A range of simultaneous multi-channel acquisition and complementary analysis software options are also available. Further flexibility can be accessed by converting TuCam into a high performance camera switching device, facilitating fast switching between two different acquisition technologies for example.

The robust design of TuCam ensures superior optical and mechanical stability and ease of alignment. Available as C- or CSUX-mount versions and availing of a wide range of high quality wavelength or polarization filter sets, TuCam also features high quality achromatic lenses, industry-leading transmission, very low distortion and excellent registration between camera channels. A unique 22mm aperture certifies compatibility with large format sensors for wide field of view imaging, as offered by the Neo and Zyla sCMOS cameras.

Dr. Orla Hanrahan, Life Science Application Specialist at Andor Technology, said, “The multi-wavelength imaging solution offers a versatile and flexible option for any researcher. TuCam can be used with two identical cameras to achieve simultaneous and synchronous fast imaging or it can act as a switch between two different detectors, thus ensuring ease of use for any application. If two cameras are not available and dual wavelength imaging is required Andor offer the Optosplit II, thereby tailoring the needs of any laboratory or imaging facility. This combination of adaptability, market-leading camera performance and superior optical accuracy makes for a highly differentiating platform”.

iXon Ultra 897 EMCCD Camera

Oxford Instruments Andor

Facilitated by a fundamental redesign, the NEW iXon Ultra platform takes the popular back-illuminated 512 x 512 frame transfer sensor and overclocks readout to 17 MHz, pushing speed performance to an outstanding 56 fps (full frame), whilst maintaining quantitative stability throughout. The status of ‘Ultimate Sensitivity’ is also preserved in this model, offering thermoelectric cooling down to -100°C and industry-lowest clock induced charge noise. Additional unique features of the iXon Ultra include USB connectivity and direct raw data access for on the fly processing. EMCCD and conventional CCD readout modes provide heightened application flexibility, with a new ‘low and slow’ noise performance in CCD mode.

Neo 5.5 - sCMOS Camera

Oxford Instruments Andor

The Neo sCMOS Camera platform has been conceptualised and specifically engineered to harness the full performance potential of this new and exciting sensor technology. Unlike any CCD or CMOS camera to come before, Neo is unique in its ability to simultaneously offer ultra-low noise, extremely fast frame rates, wide dynamic range, high resolution and a large field of view. Neo breaks new boundaries in offering an exceptionally low read noise of 1 e- rms without the need for signal amplification technology. 100 frames/s can be reached with full frame readout, faster with region of interest selection. In Neo, these speeds are uniquely coupled to a dynamic range capability of 30,000:1 with 16-bit digitization.

TuCam Two Camera Imaging Adapter

Oxford Instruments Andor

Andor’s TuCam is a new generation two-camera adapter for macro or microscopic imaging applications.Available in C- or CSUX-mount, TuCam features include large aperture, exceptional transmission, very low distortion and high precision alignment using kinematic cassettes. TuCam can be configured for simultaneous imaging from two similar cameras or as a switch between camera models with different imaging capabilities. A full range of beam splitting optics are available with custom-designed kinematic cassettes for precision alignment. These include wavelength and polarization splitters of the highest quality as well as a first surface mirror for switching between cameras. A variety of camera tubes & lenses is available to provide magnifications of 1.0x, 1.2x, 1.5x and 2.0x in each arm of the adapter. A filter wheel can also be integrated at the input of TuCam to enable pre-filtering of the desired emission band.
