Application Note: Low adsorption HPLC columns based on MaxPeak high performance surfaces
5 June 2023
In this application note, Waters Corporation addresses the limitations of stainless steel HPLC columns due to corrosion and their negative impact on peak shape and analyte recovery. While alternative materials like titanium and nickel-cobalt alloys offer improved corrosion resistance, they still pose challenges for certain analyses. The interaction between analytes and metal surfaces can lead to poor peak shape, analyte losses, and inaccuracies. To overcome these issues, chromatographers often use metal-free columns made of polyether ether ketone (PEEK), but PEEK has limitations in terms of pressure capabilities, solvent compatibility, and hydrophobicity.
