The Key to Androgen Assessment: Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)
08 Dec 2011

Total testosterone measurements usually provide an accurate assessment of androgen status. However sometimes patient testosterone levels do not correlate with clinical presentation and diagnosis is not as straightforward. Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) can affect the amount of biologically active testosterone available to the tissues. Testing both may provide a clearer testosterone picture and a more comprehensive tool for androgen assessment.
