Sarstedt lumox® multiwell plates are film-based cell culture systems for automated analyses of fluorescence-based cell assays. The plates consist of a black polystyrene base in accordance with the SBS Standard and an ultra-thin (50 µm) lumox® film base.
lumox® cell culture products stand out for their very low autofluorescence, high transparency and gas-permeability. Compared to standard polystyrene bases the lumox® products show a lower autofluorescence comparable to glass, and have a higher light transmission than polystyrene or glass bases, especially at wavelengths of 200 to 300 nm. These properties enable an exceptionally good microscopy behaviour and a consistently high sensitivity for assays, imaging and reader techniques.
The gas-permeable quality of the film base provides a range of advantages for cell cultivation. The cells grow directly at the border between the gaseous and liquid phase where the culture medium cannot function as a diffusion barrier. While the cells are directly supplied with oxygen, metabolic waste products like CO2 can simultaneously escape. The short diffusion paths ensure an optimal gas exchange and, thus, optimal growth conditions for cells.
In addition to low autofluorescence, high transparency and gas-permeabilty the lumox® film has a superior chemical resistance enabling a multitude of fixation and staining steps without impairing its low autofluorescence.
lumox® multiwell plates are available in a 24-well, 96-well and 384-well format.
