KASP™ Genotyping Reagents
Unmatched quality, reliability and credibility have established KASP as the foundational SNP genotyping chemistry for the Agrigenomics industry.
Great results, relatively economical prices
Genotyping of sunflower
The need for high-quality DNA extraction is not an advantage. The manufacturer wants to be a part of our papers, If they provided the products and the services for free, this demand could be reasonable. Good kit, easy to apply. Not using gel electrophoresis is a huge advantage.

Excellent - a quick and reliable way to genotype.
Genotyping
We originally started using KASP genotyping assays for SNP genotyping but have found it so easy to use and cost-effective that we have now switched to genotyping all our insertion and deletion mutations this way as well. We have had bespoke assays designed and the support has been great.

The patented KASP™ genotyping method is a homogeneous, FRET-based end-point PCR assay that enables accurate bi-allelic discrimination of known SNPs and InDels.
Unlike other PCR-based genotyping assays, KASP requires no labelling of the target-specific primers or probes, giving it a clear cost advantage. It also allows greater flexibility for assay design, which translates into a higher overall success rate and the unique ability to genotype large/mega InDels. For over 20 years, the KASP assay has been cited in over 2,500 peer-reviewed publications, developed into tens of thousands of pre-validated assays across many commercially important crops, and used to develop over 200,000 SNP genotyping assays in more than 75 organisms, including higher ploidy plant species.
Whether purchased as a product for use in your laboratory, or as a genotyping service at our state of the art genotyping laboratories in Europe and North America, KASP genotyping delivers accurate results and significant cost savings so customers can get the most out of their research budget. KASP genotyping is based on an open format PCR workflow. There is no need to buy new expensive equipment to be able to run KASP in your own laboratory; completed KASP reactions can be read on most FRET-capable plate readers and qPCR instruments.
Features:
- Accuracy: >99.8% based on independent assessment
- Industry leading SNP & InDel assay conversion rate (>90%)
- Flexible primer design which increases the rate of successful assay development
- Supports low, medium and high-throughput studies and individual repeat assays
- Compatibility with a wide range of liquid handling systems and thermal cyclers, signal can be read on most FRET-capable plate readers and qPCR instruments
- Breakthrough cost savings
Applications:
- Many applications in plant, animal, human and microbial research
- Plant Marker-assisted selection for crop improvement (including MARS and MABC)
- Fingerprinting / parental screening
- SNP validation
- Field trial genotyping
- Animal Marker-assisted selection for livestock breeding

Comparison of Custom Designed KASP and Taqman Genotyping Assays for A Rare Genetic Variant Identified Through Resequencing GWAS Loci
This article compares the effectiveness of two genotyping technologies, TaqManTM and KASPTM, for successful design of custom genotyping assays for a novel rare variant suggested to be associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The variant in this study was found in a next generation sequencing (NGS) study and is a rare deleterious missense coding variant.
Comparison of Custom Designed KASP and TaqMan Genotyping Assays for a Rare Genetic Variant Identified Through Resequencing GWAS Loci
A next-generation sequencing (NGS) study was undertaken to uncover rare variants surrounding the gene loci associated with the complex neurodegenerative dementia Alzheimer’s disease. Following functional annotation with in silico databases, several variants were prioritized for direct genotyping in case and control samples to gather further support for their potential role as the functional variant responsible for the GWAS signal. This application note evaluates the effectiveness of two genotyping technologies, TaqMan and KASP, for successful design of custom genotyping assays for one of the rare deleterious missense coding variants identified in the NGS study.
Key Trait Screening on Global Wheat Accessions using KASP Genotyping Markers
This application note offers an example of how KASP genotyping assays for QTL can be used to survey potential breed-lines for crop development using these publicly available markers. Greater availability of high-throughput genotyping methods has lead to an explosion of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) sequence data from plant genomes. This has enabled the discovery of large numbers of potential SNP markers for varietal improvement. The use of KASP genotyping as a cost-effective, efficient tool for introgression of important traits has now been widely published.
The Jackson Laboratory – Mouse Genomics
The Jackson Laboratory used LGC’s KASP genotyping technology to facilitate a key part of their study into the factors controlling the location and relative activity of mammalian recombination hotspots. The research team selected KASP™ genotyping technology due to its flexibility in assay design, excellent SNP genotyping performance and intelligent cost saving.
Variation in the <i>ovocalyxin-32</i> Gene in Commercial Egg-Laying Chickens and its Relationship with Egg Production and Egg Quality Traits
The quality of eggshells is an important trait for commercial egg production. A number of studies have linked polymorphisms in the gene encoding the eggshell protein ovocalyxin-32 (OCX32) with eggshell features including strength and thickness. In this study, exons 2-6 of the OCX32 gene were sequenced in multiple elite commercial egg-laying lines, and SNP detection and analysis carried out using LGC’s KASP™ genotyping chemistry to identify multiple polymorphisms.
Customer Case Study: Seed Biotechnology Center, University of California, Davis
The goal of this research was to identify genes associated with resistance to root rot in pepper. At the point where the team had narrowed their selection of SNP markers down, the array chip was no longer practical and the group switched to using KASP genotyping to follow up on the candidates and to perform the crucial functional validation of them as Pc resistance markers.
The Effect of <i>IGF2</i> on Developing Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
Dr Clive Petry, a researcher from the Department of Paediatrics, University of Cambridge, and his team, investigated whether the polymorphic variation in the paternally transmitted fetal IGF2 gene is associated with increased maternal glucose concentrations in the third trimester of pregnancy. This case study outlines this research and how LGC Genomic’s KASP technology contributed to their findings.
