"The IX81 is a good microscope which is easy to use. One problem, files have to be converted into Tiff files after collecting. The usability is not great and it is time consuming."

"In my opinion, it is not as good, or easy to use, as other manufacturers. I think it is possible to obtain better, cheaper microscopes from other companies. However it is good for people who want to modify microscopes and the objective lens from Olympus is the best."

"Gives very rapid TIRF images with a very easy user interface. However, a year after installation we're still waiting on some emission filters. Image files are not saved in the most logical, straightforward way."

"Change to: Very easy to use the joy stick to move around, this is the best feature of the scope. It would be nice if there were a larger field of view, especially within the software (Slidebook 5.0) that is used to analyze the image. The image on the computer screen is much smaller than the image seen in the scope."

"I use the IX81 microscope extensively for immunofluorescence studies. It is a great microscope. Training is provided from Olympus and the reps are very helpful and just a phone call away whenever we have issues. It is an expensive piece of equipment, but it definitely works well."
