"This mini prep kit is extremely easy to use and time saving, compared to other alternatives like making your own isolation recipe - which might be cheaper - but time consuming. I have also had very good results isolating different RNA sizes compared to my conventional method. Note: I didn't contact after sales but I voted them 5 stars since there was no "inapplicable" option. "

"This kit is easy to use and has all the advantages of phenol: chloroform extraction with much less hassle. The RNA extraction with this kit takes less than 5 minutes, either directly from the Direct-zol(TM) itself or from the chloroform step. If you take the RNA from the chloroform extract, then you can still extract the protein and DNA. Furthermore, the RNA is high quality and gives good spectrophotometer readings (the 260/280 and 260/230 readings which are typically close to 2.0). This kit is cheap and works well. I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking to extract RNA and continue to use their phenol: chloroform extraction reagents."

"My experience with this kit is very positive. The trizol lysate is directly loaded onto the column without prior phase separation. Also, the small RNA are preserved (co-isolated) with total RNA even when DNAse I is performed. However, the only drawback is you need to make sure you don't over saturate the column."
The Direct-zol™ RNA MiniPrep provides a streamlined method for the purification of up to 50 µg (per prep) of high-quality RNA directly from samples in TRI-Reagent® or similar.
Total RNA (including small and non-coding RNAs) is effectively isolated from a variety of sample sources (cells, tissues, biological liquids, etc.) using this product. The procedure is easy: simply apply a sample in TRI-Reagent® to spin column and then spin, wash, and elute the RNA. No phase separation, precipitation, or post-purification steps are necessary.
Small RNAs (≥17 nucleotides) are efficiently and consistently recovered using this kit. The result is broad range purification of small and large RNAs suitable for subsequent RNA-based methods including RT-PCR, transcription profiling, hybridization, etc.
