Best DD show ever!’ – were the words that were continually being echoed around the crowded Manchester Central Exhibition Centre during ELRIG’s seventh Drug Discovery annual conference. Held on 3rd &and 4th September 2013, the free to attend meeting attracted a record number of delegates, posters and exhibitors.

An exhausted but delighted Dermot Boylan, General Manager of the ELRIG conferences commented ‘ We were astounded by the response to this year’s Drug Discovery conference! The 8 full tracks of world class science attracted over 1100 participants, 95 exhibitors and 164 posters. Many of the speaker sessions were packed to capacity, reinforcing the value of information sharing and networking that the ELRIG conferences provide’.

The scientific program, put together by Conference Directors Del Trezise and Peter Simpson, contained a variety of focussed tracks. These included Target & Biomarker Identification & Validation, Advances in Cell Technologies, Macromolecules as Therapeutics and Oncology Drug Targets.

Celebrating his first Drug Discovery meeting as Chairman of ELRIG, a jubilant Sanj Kumar commented ‘The open access format of Drug Discovery ensures maximum interaction between world class speakers, young scientists, delegates, long established exhibitors and innovative new companies, ensuring that everyone can benefit and enjoy a packed two day event, which amazingly is free of charge to all delegates!’

Keynote speaker, Ruth McKernan from Pfizer, presented her talk entitled ‘Practical applications of stem cell-derived cells within drug discovery’ to a packed, standing room only auditorium,

A drinks reception, sponsored by Queen’s Award for Enterprise winners SelectScience, who also celebrated15 years of innovation in online publishing, proved to be a perfect way for participants to relax, network and swap opinions and ideas during the show.

The Drug Discovery conference program included a variety of diverse events and activities for attendees to interact.
