Variation in the ovocalyxin-32 Gene in Commercial Egg-Laying Chickens and its Relationship with Egg Production and Egg Quality Traits
9 Jan 2015The quality of eggshells is an important trait for commercial egg production. A number of studies have linked polymorphisms in the gene encoding the eggshell protein ovocalyxin-32 (OCX32) with eggshell features including strength and thickness. In this study, exons 2-6 of the OCX32 gene were sequenced in multiple elite commercial egg-laying lines, and SNP detection and analysis carried out using LGC’s KASP™ genotyping chemistry to identify multiple polymorphisms.

Genome AnalysisGenomics, the study of genomes, includes functional genomics, evolutionary genomics and comparative genomics. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.SNPs TechnologySingle nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are individual base variations in a DNA sequence. SNPs are used in research to study predispositions to disease and drug discovery. Products for studying single nucleotide polymorphisms include SNP arrays and detection systems to detect polymorphisms, SNP typing systems for genotyping DNA, and PCR to amplify specific SNPs.SNP Genotyping
