Removal of Hydride Ion Interferences (MH+) on Rare Earth Elements Using the Agilent 8800 Triple Quadrupole ICP-MS
4 Jan 2013

The measurement of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) is of great importance in geochemistry, mining and materials science. Manufacturers of high purity REE materials need a technique to quantify REE impurities in refined, single elements REE materials. This application note demonstrates the Agilent 8800 Triple Quadrupole ICP-MS (also known as Agilent 8800 ICP-QQQ) used in MS/MS mass-shift mode and using oxygen as the reaction gas can overcome MH+ interferences associated with ICP-MS, the traditional method for trace measurement of REEs.
