Distribution of 5-hmC in Different Human Tissues

Learn about the epigenetic role of 5-hmC - a modified form of cytosine for switching genes on and off in this research article. By utilizing a newly developed 5-hmC immunoassay, the abundance of 5-hmC in human tissue was determined and compared with 5-hmC states of normal colorectal tissue and cancerous colorectal tissue. Significant differences were observed, and results showed that 5-hmC distribution is tissue dependent with a change in abundance in diseased states such as colorectal cancer.
