The Thermo Scientific Developmental Neurotoxicity Panel is the only proven method for analyzing the effect of industrial chemicals on neuronal morphological chemicals in food, consumer products and the environment. The widespread use of these chemicals has led to fears of a link between exposure to such chemicals and the increased incidence of neurological disorders in children. The assay uses Neuroscreen (NS-1) cells, a subclonal of PC-12 cells, which when stimulated with nerve growth factor (NGF) differentiate forming neurites. Automated image cytometry allows quantitative morphological measurements of the fluorescently stained NS-1 cells to determine potential effects on neurodevelopment.
