Assessing the Effect of Fennel Essential Oil on Pharyngeal Pumping in C. elegans using the ScreenChip System
23 May 2017

Fennel essential oil is used traditionally in South America as a worming agent against human infections with the trematode parasite, Schistosoma mansoni. This application note describes the use of the ScreeningChip platform to investigate the effect of fennel essential oil on the nematode worm C. elegans. It was found that the electropharyngeogram recordings provided results more rapidly than traditional endpoints such as worm paralysis or egg production and allowed researchers to easily carry out mode-of-action experiments.
