Using the BD Accuri C6 Cytometer for Rapid and Accurate Analysis of the Nuclear DNA Contents of Flowering Plants
31 Oct 2012

The nuclear DNA content (C-value) is a fundamental parameter of eukaryotic cells. Flow cytometry provides the most convenient and accurate way to determine C-values of plants, but sampling the approximately 480,000 species of angiosperms remains very limited, only about 1% being reported. This white paper from BD Biosciences demonstrates why the BD Accuri™ C6 flow cytometer is ideally suited for determining C-values for new plant species. This white paper describes the way in which C-value determinations are done, including technical details for avoiding contribution from cellular debris, and includes typical measurements from plant species to illustrate the dynamic range of the measurements.
