Iron is an important trace element and the monitoring of iron levels in the blood is of significant medical importance. If the iron concentration in the blood is too high, it can be assumed that the body's total iron content is too high. This may result from liver cirrhosis and other organ damage. If the blood's iron content is too low, the consequences often manifest themselves as anemia, immune weakness and severe fatigue.
