Basic Principles of Particle Size Analysis

Dispersion processes and the shape of materials makes particle size analysis a more complex matter than it first appears. This technical paper describes how different definitions of the particle size can be obtained depending on the property chosen, as well as how to convert between number, length, and volume/mass means.

The merits of different methods for measuring particle sizes using sieves, sedimentation, electrozone sensing, microscopy, and laser diffraction is discussed.
