Application Note: Analysis of Sulfur Compounds in Natural Gas Using the Agilent 290 Micro GC

Natural gas, a complex mixture of inert gas and low molecular hydro carbons, may contain impurities such as hydrogen sulfide and other organic sulfur compounds. Raw natural gas is typically treated to remove large amounts of sulfur gases. Gas chromatography is a proven method to analyze natural gas and its impurities. In this application note the Agilent 490 Micro GC was used to separate hydrogen sulfide, carbonyl sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, tert-butyl mercaptan and tetrahydrothiophene from the typical hydrocarbons in natural gas. The presented method enables extremely fast separation and confident process control.
