Aggressive Aqueous Solution Study Using the Specac Quest ATR Accessory
17 Oct 2012

Aggressive liquid samples which are acidic by nature can be analyzed by IR liquid transmission cells. To comply with Pharmacopeia regulations, chemicals and samples are required to have infrared spectral data collected for them between the frequency range of 4000cm-1 to 400cm-1 and this stipulation may limit the type of liquid transmission cell that can be used as the optical materials. In this application note it is shown that the Specac Questâ„¢ ATR accessory can be used overcome this limitation. The Quest diamond ATR accessory is capable of handling and measuring samples such as Acetic Acid 100%, Nitric Acid 60% and Orthophosphoric Acid 85% for their IR ATR spectra.
