Histone modifications caused by histone deacetylases (HDACs) are strongly related to epigenetic regulation of transcription. This application note describes how determining the activity of recombinant HDAC1 using the POLARstar OPTIMA microplate reader from BMG LABTECH offers high precision and performance. Using Boc-Lys(Ac)-AMC as fluorescent substrate HDAC activity and inhibitor assays can be performed over a wide concentration range.
