High Throughput Cell Adhesion: Screening of VLA-4 Antagonists Under Physiological Shear Flow Conditions
14 May 2013

Cell adhesion governs countless biological phenomena in health and disease. This application note presents a screen of three monoclonal antibodies directed against very late antigen-4 (VLA-4) for assessment of adhesion reduction to vascular cell adhesion molecule -1 (VCAM-1) in the Bioflux™ System. This screen analyzed the number of cells adhering to the VCAM-1 substrate, as well as the morphological characteristics of attached cells. The time to perform the entire experiment from coating the plate with VCAM-1 to manual data collection is reduced to 3 hours in comparison to 6-18 hours for a standard microplate adhesion inhibition assay.
