Checking the performance of a balance and calculating it’s minimum weight is an important factor in ensuring accurate weighing in today’s regulated laboratories.

Traditionally this is achieved by multiple and repetitive weighing of external masses and determination of a mean and standard deviation, either by a calculator or a “smart” balance or printer. This can be a time-consuming process and usually requires the handling of small, difficult to work with external masses. The process is made even more laborious and challenging if the balance is located in a difficult to access location such as an isolation box.
