"The GentleMACS Dissociator and accompanying enzyme kits have dramatically improved our yield of viable patient-derived tumor cell lines and mouse xenograft tumor cell lines. Before we began using the GentleMACS our success rate at generating cell lines was about 50% from glioblastomas and 25% from brain metastases. Now with the GentleMACS we are over 85% successful with both. Following the supplied protocol is very easy, and not terribly time-consuming, which is important when working with patient specimens. Now we dream of getting the funds to upgrade our lab from the 2 sample model up to the Octo-Dissociator which can run 8 at once, as implied by the name :) "

"The system allows to work up to 8 different samples simultaneously. Mechanical dissociation can be applied in varied ways (speed, time and rotation sense ). Temperature (37ºC) can be used at the same time, allowing a combination of enzymatic and mechanical strategies. All of this, produces an increase in cell viability and cell recovery and permits to reduce the size of starting material. We use it for RNA and DNA extraction, obtaining amazing results. Price is the only drawback. "

"This apparatus has multiple programs to fit with different biological applications and it is possible to upgrade it or create its own program. It is reproducible and very convenient to use. We still need to buy specific tubes developed by Miltenyi to use it. "

The gentleMACS™ Dissociator is a benchtop instrument for the semi-automated dissociation of tissues into single-cell suspensions or thorough homogenates.
