Insights into a Forensic Lab – Mass Spectrometry Beyond CSI
Available on demand
Screening for xenobiotics is a crucial part of forensic and clinical toxicological analysis, but comprehensive and reliable screening of human body fluids for the presence of drugs, toxicants, poisons and their metabolites is an ever increasingly challenging task. In a series of case studies, Dr. Jürgen Kempf will describe the use of two complementary LC-MS/MS technologies to address this issue. The sensitivity, selectivity and wide scope of compound coverage enables LC-MS/MS techniques to undertake comprehensive forensic toxicological screening while reducing false positives, therefore maximizing the degree of confidence in correct compound identification.
Key learning objectives:
• Learn how LC-MS/MS makes high sensitivity, high confidence forensic drug screening a reality.
• Understand how complementary MS technologies reduce routine workload and allow in-depth investigations to be achieved. Specifically, we will discuss LC-MSn ion trap technology (Toxtyper™) and accurate mass Quadrupole Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (LC-QTOF).
• Learn how new LC-MS/MS software tools with mass spectra databases have been applied in real forensic case studies.
