D-dimer Testing: An Essential Element in Pulmonary Embolism (PE) and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Diagnosis
Available on demand
Join us for a comprehensive review of venous thromboembolism (VTE), a serious condition in which a blood clot formed in a vein migrates proximally through the bloodstream towards smaller vessels. Pulmonary embolism (PE) for example, is the blockage of a major artery in the lungs that usually stems from the formation of clots in the deep leg veins, that become dislodged. PE is often difficult to detect but can result in sudden death, therefore it is imperative to diagnose patients as quickly as possible to achieve the best outcome.
This webinar will focus on deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and PE, and the value of D-dimer testing in excluding PE as a diagnosis. D-dimer is a degradation product of fibrin, a protein that forms through the polymerization of fibrinogen during blood clotting. Testing for D-dimer is a simple and fast laboratory procedure that can accelerate the diagnosis and treatment of patients with suspected PE.
Dr. James Aguanno, Ph.D., senior clinical specialist at Siemens Healthineers, will review D-dimer testing in conjunction with the Wells pre-test probability assessment and standard radiological procedures, for improved PE diagnoses and patient outcome.
