It is perfect for characterizing and studying colloidal properties of nanomaterials.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area: Size and zeta potential of nanomaterials and emulssions

"I had been working with this equipment for over 7 years and I can only say that it is perfect for characterizing and studying colloidal material for a wide range of materials, and is undoubtedly the gold standard for characterizing colloidal dispersions. Undoubtedly, it is an excellent product, which allows a wide possibility of colloidal studies and provides the characterization of nanomaterials simply and quickly. The software of the equipment is very intuitive and provides a fast characterization for common users, and also allows customization for a wide range of advanced analysis. Malvern's support is excellent, answering questions extremely quickly, as well as the excellent quality of the equipment manual, the technical notes and the webinars that allow a deepening of the user with the technique for better use of the equipment. In general, the equipment has allowed us from the initial characterization of the most diverse nanomaterials, to optimize their synthetic parameters, to specific characterizations and studies for publications in indexed journals. In addition, many companies contact us for sample evaluation by measurements. DLS and zeta potential, so we consider this equipment the gold standard for nanomaterial characterization and colloidal studies in our laboratory because it has fast, repeatable analyzes with excellent quality, and the automation option of the auto titrator facilitates the obtaining of the profiles. zeta potential of the materials as a function of pH and the wide temperature range allows the testing of sample aging or studies of phase transitions in polymers. Because of all these possibilities and facilities, this is undoubtedly a money-saving device and in the long run it is undoubtedly responsible for a great saving of money and time by allowing fast and excellent quality characterizations."

Excellent instrument for water treatment optimization - great support from Malvern!
Rating: 4.3

  • Application Area:Water Treatment

"Excellent product which we believe has massive potential. The product is relatively easy to use - we have found variable results under certain conditions and are performing research to optimize the measurement for our samples. After a slow start we had really excellent support from Malvern which included a site visit to discuss erroneous readings (Mike Kasuba and Kerry) - this support was hugely appreciated and has given us a springboard for starting the research in earnest. We feel that zeta potential has the potential to become THE method for coagulant dosing control on water treatment works. Whilst our research is ongoing the results to date suggest that the measurement may allow us to be optimized more of the time (providing more robust water treatment processes) whilst potentially saving large amounts of money by reducing chemical dosing."

Good addition to the R&D capabilities
Rating: 3.3

  • Application Area:Measure particles size of emulsion polymers

"Easy to use. Results vs. other equipments are similar when unimodal particle size distribution are measured. Low reproducibility when bi- or tri-modal systems are analyzed. It might be just a matter of dermining the right method"

Manufacturer's Response

Thanks for your comments Luis, You have put that you own a Nano Z, but I assume it’s a Nano S or ZS as you state that you measure particle size. Dynamic Light Scattering is deemed a relatively low resolution technique and as such you may experience more variable results with bi-modal or tri-modal samples and you may not resolve the individual modes if they are closer than 3:1 ratio of sizes. For your multimodal samples you may want to manually increase the measurement time. If you have concerns then please send these along with data illustrating the problem and I am sure we can advise on how to improve reproducibility.

Reproducible results, easy to use.
Rating: 4.0

  • Application Area:Sizing nanoparticles

"The Zetasizer is very easy to use. The only hiccup we've had is in knowing the default applied voltage and how to change that if need be."
