"Very easy piece of kit to use, far better than the Invitrogen Cellomic reader. Gives very accurate counts and images.  Used excessively within DS department at AstraZeneca."

Vi-CELL Cell Viability Analyser

"Vi Cell is easy to use. However, I wish it had more comment capability (a way to enter information about each sample). Photos are very large creating a data storage problem, but overall I would recommend the product."

Vi-CELL Cell Viability Analyser

"A simple and effective way to monitor cell growth. A negative would be the loss of accuracy when counting clumpy cell lines (e.g. hepatocytes)- alternative counters are needed for these."

"A straight forward to use automated cell counter which is fairly accurate. The settings are easy to change for new cell types. The only downside is that too many sample tubes are sent."

Vi-CELL Cell Viability Analyser

Description

The Beckman Coulter Vi-CELL automates the widely accepted trypan blue dye exclusion method for cell viability. Historically, cell viability determinations have been performed manually using a light microscope and haemocytometer. The Vi-CELL uses an imaging technique to automate this process.

The Vi-CELL system means that the number of cells quantified is significantly greater, thus enhancing the statistical reliability of the results. Data is available in minutes and the number of parameters for the cell culture is significantly more those those available from the Haemocytomter.

Samples are loaded onto the Vi-CELL, where the customised liquid handling system allows fully automated sample aspiration, analysis, reagent handling and subsequent instrument cleaning. Upto 100 images, each containing a number of cells are then analysed using Dynamic Image Analysis software which determines whether the cells are viable or not. Information on cell viability, concentration and circularity is displayed.

The Vi-CELL bioprocess feature allows convenient, automated 'tracking' of the cell culture parameters essential to optimum bioreactor productivity.

A number of common cell types, such as Chinese Hampster Ovary (CHO) are pre-configured into the Vi-CELL, and the flexible software allows others to be easily accomodated.

Selecting the 21CFR part 11 compliance options in the software automatically reconfigures the system to comply with these regulations.
