Great multichannel pipettor. Can't be beat for plate stamping.
Rating: 4.0

  • Application Area: Plate stamping, liquid handing

"We bought the Velocity11 (now Agilent) VPrep (now Vertical Pipetting Station) over 10 years ago, when the Bravo was first being developed. This was a stand-in for that anticipated Bravo, but we ended up liking it so much that we bought this one as well. It is great for what it does - transfer liquid 96 or 384 channels at a time. We use ours daily and it is our in-house library reformatting instrument for small molecule libraries dissolved in DMSO. The heads are easily swapped out in 30 seconds, and the shelves move in and out underneath the head for pipetting. We are still using an old version of the software called Prepworks, but it still works great and we feel no compelling reason to upgrade. Pros: • The instrument is fast and dependable. • It has an incredibly small footprint. • The heads are easily switchable. • There are 3rd party tips for the instrument that work well and are very inexpensive. Cons: • There are only 8 positions and only 6 that can accommodate standard microplates. The bottom two are for tips or deepwell plates. • Occasionally it is unhappy pressing on 70uL 384-well tips, but a simple retry solves this. • The heads are expensive and no independent channels for serial dilutions or hit picking."

"The after sales service was excellent under Velocity11 but not as good since the transition to Agilent- it is work in progress."

"A very reliable robot."

Review date: 12 Feb 2007 | Vertical Pipetting Station

The Agilent Vertical Pipetting Station delivers industry-leading speed and unparalleled performance for sample handling and liquid-transfer applications. The two-axis positioning stage provides access to all quadrants of 96-, 384-, and 1536-well microplates. An intuitive user interface allows the operator to create and run complex pipetting protocols with ease. Available either as a standalone unit or integrated into a larger robotic platform, the Vertical Pipetting Station will significantly reduce cycle time for your most demanding pipetting protocols.

Features:

  • Compact – Unique eight-microplate position, small footprint design integrates seamlessly into automation systems
  • Precise – The Vertical Pipettor uses proven high-accuracy pipette heads for dispensing from 100 nL to 250 µL in 96-, 384-, and 1536-well microplates with precision of ± 0.025 mm X/Y/Z positioning
  • Flexible – Accessory shelves are available for microplate alignment and weighing reagent
  • Versatile – Pipette heads are easily interchanged in less than 2 minutes
  • High Performance – Average cycle time is approximately 10 seconds for a microplate transfer (load tips, aspirate 40 µL from microplate 1, dispense 40 µL into microplate 2, eject tips)
  • High Throughput – Simultaneously pipette while other microplates are changed for impressive throughput and significant reduction in assay time
