Fantastic when it works, not so hot for on-site care needs.

"Waters pre-columns work well at extending the life of the main column on our system. They're easy to use and change out when necessary. The UPLC system is a rock star when it works which is a majority of the time. Waters after market support is great for pre-arranged maintenance, like a PM visit. 3-stars for after sales care as getting a technician on-site for unexpected maintenance needs can take days and we're only a couple hours away from their San Francisco bay area offices."

"I usually analysis aldehydes by using UPLC, so I frequently install the VanGuard column. The result of peak is very sharp whenever I use new column, and when I analysis just 30 samples the column is out of order. So I have to buy new one to analysis the sample. It is really not practical product for me!!!!!"

Manufacturer's Response"The VanGuard needs to be replaced after 30 injections, so from your review it appears the VanGuard is working as intended. It is a replaceable item to protect the column. If it fouls after 30 injections you may be injecting some nasty samples. If you are replacing the ACQUITY column after 30 injections the VanGuard is not working correctly, if that is the case please contact us so we can trouble shoot further."
These guard columns use an ultra-low volume design (patent pending) that efficiently protects UPLC column performance. This ultra-low volume design does not compromise the UPLC holistic design approach to higher efficiency, greater resolution and increased throughput.
Guard columns are typically used in applications where complex, unpredictable and demanding samples are analyzed. VanGuard Pre-Columns are the first guard columns specifically designed for routine use at pressures up to 15,000 psi (1,000 bar). The first VanGuard Pre-Columns for UPLC separations will be available with 1.7 µm ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 chemistry. Additional VanGuard Pre-Columns will be released as they become available.
