USB4000 Miniature Fiber Optic Spectrometer

Description

The USB4000 Miniature Fiber Optic Spectrometer from Ocean Optics is a low-cost, high-performance system easily configured for thousands of UV-VIS-Shortwave NIR applications from 200-1100 nm. Flexible fiber optic spectroscopy lets you bring the instrument to the sample.

Modular system can be optimized to fit your application needs

The USB4000 features a high-sensitivity linear CCD array that provides unusually high response and excellent optical resolution in a miniature package -- for a fraction of the cost of larger, less-flexible systems.

Optimized Applications

The USB4000 is part of a modular spectrometer system -- users select from 3 detectors, 14 gratings, 6 slits and hundreds of fiber optic accessories such as light sources, probes and optical fibers -- to configure small-footprint, application-specific systems for absorbance, reflectance and emission. The USB4000 plugs directly into any computer and has an onboard A/D convereter to ensure a hassle-free instrument-to-PC interface. This remarkable flexibility makes the USB4000 equally attractive to researchers, new product developers and OEM integrators.

Applications Engineering

The USB4000 Spectrometer is just one part of a fully integrated spectrophotometric solution to your optical-sensing challenges. That's where our applications scientists come in -- by helping you select the components that will become the optimum system for your application. Not only have we sold more than 75,000 spectrometers, we've enabled thousands of applications -- systems for everything from cancer detection to color measurement, plasma monitoring to particle size analysis.

Miniature Optical Design

The USB4000 features a familiar optical design -- the crossed Czerny-Turner -- that has been reconfigured for an optical bench small enough to fit into the palm of your hand. This compact optical bench -- with no moving parts -- has a high-sensitivity 2048-element linear CCD-array detector that accepts light energy transmitted through single-strand optical fiber and disperses it via a fixed grating across the array. Despite its tiny size, the bench delivers low stray light and high resolution, comparable to conventional 1/4-meter monochromators.

USB4000 Fiber Optic Spectrometer -- Specifications

Ocean Optics miniature fiber optic spectrometers offer high performance at low cost, in a convenient, modular package. Operating performance will vary according to a number of factors, including spectrometer configuration -- especially the groove density of the grating and the size of the entrance optics -- as well as the application itself (for example, low vs. high light level applications).

USB4000 Miniature Fiber Optic Spectrometer

"This instrument can be used for mulitple bacteria detection with several quantum dots used for capture of the targets. It can be easily integrated with other units potentially for in field use. The disadvantage is that the sensitivity can not be improved to a very high level."
