“Allround“ SEC-columns for initial analysis of unknown samples
For Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) of technical or biological polymers, Tosoh Bioscience GmbH offers a newly developed hydrophilic rigid resin showing little swelling and shrinkage in water mixtures or pure organic solvents. Small resin particles (4 µm) with narrow particle size distribution packed into 6 mm ID columns with 15 cm length demonstrate the superiority of the TSKgel SuperAW columns. Theoretical plate counts are higher and less dependent on flow rate than with conventional columns.
Five different pore sizes of the resin allow for wide Separation Ranges, e.g.100 – 1.000.000 Da (when using PEO). With a mixed-bed type column even small and very large molecules can be separated together in one run. Each column type shows a high degree of linearity for its specific calibration range. Non-SEC or mixed mode separations for small molecules are possible by selection of the eluent as demonstrated by the separation of Triton X-100 or preservatives in cosmetics.
