"The Varioskan Flash is a uniquely functional microplate reader. It measures absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, and can acquire kinetics data. The fluorescence spectra is typically poor compared to a fluorescence spectrometer, but it is still useful. The uncommon feature is the ability to have up to 3 programmable dispensing heads, along with agitation and delay times. This allows for automated reactions. The down side is the reliability. Service in the US is very difficult and slow to respond. Spare parts typically take 6 weeks or more to arrive. It is not well suited to overnight runs; this often creates instrument problems and the inevitable down time. "

"I want to point out some aspects of the machine which is not seen in the brochures. 1) It has excellent spectral correction without errors from Optics and electronics. 2) It has lots of safety features with the dispenser. 3) The user requires good motor coordination to use the dispensers if you don’t want to waste a well in a plate, i recommend to use an external reservoir to prime. The dispensers show excellent accuracy and precision. 3) It can calculate energy transfer efficiency from the Spectra. 4) Good for long kinetic assays without loss of sample volumes. 5) There is a long life time for the lamp, I haven’t experienced any issues. 6) I love the well scanning mode, where you can measure 48 points within the well. You need Alpha screen and a good TRF to make it a wonderful package. The support team and the application team are quite good. I recommend this to everyone to buy. "
